Harvest Fest at the Yamhill County Historical Society McMinnville, Oregon. Harvest Fest is a rare opportunity to watch old-time farming history.
Years ago, farmers used stationary threshers harvest crops. The thresher was powered by a steam engine driven tractor.
It has always amazed me that this method was used on our own farm in the rolling hills of the Palouse!
The standing crop was cut and hauled to the stationary thresher. Once at the thresher, the kernels of the crop were separated from the stalks.
The kernels went into canvas sacks which were then sown shut. The straw was blown into a pile near the thresher and used for bedding livestock in the barns.
